My dissertation research is focused on understanding how ecological and social factors affect the resilience of the Mexican chocolate clam fishery in Baja California Sur\, Mexico.” \nKara is fluent in English and Spanish\, so she will present a bilingual program\, with slides.

SUMMARY:Eco-Alianza's Second Annual One Ocean Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Over two evenings\, March 29 and March 30\, Eco-Alianza’s second annual One Ocean Film Festival will celebrate and enhance our connection to the oceans with four feature films\, several shorts\, and brief comments by individuals involved in creating the films. While watching the films beneath the stars in CenCoMA’s outdoor courtyard\, you’ll enjoy free popcorn\, with drinks and other concessions available. Each film will be presented bilingually (either in English with Spanish subtitles or in Spanish with English subtitles). \nClick here to order tickets. Thank you to the IMDb website for brief descriptions of the feature films. Film selections are subject to change. \n  \n  \n \n\nHumpack Whales\n\n\nFrom the waters of Alaska\, Hawaii and the remote islands of Tonga\, scientists research how these giant mammals communicate\, sing\, feed\, play and take care of their young while migrating 10\,000 miles every year. Created as an IMAX film.\n  \n \n \n\nPlanet Ocean\n\n\nFilmmakers Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot offer a breathtaking look at our ocean’s fragile ecosystem and the threats posed to it by mankind’s ongoing search for sustenance and natural resources\, as narration reveals the crucial role that the sea plays in sustaining life on planet Earth.\n \n \n\nOcean Oasis\n\n\nOcean Oasis is a fascinating journey into the bountiful seas and pristine deserts of two remarkably different\, but inextricably linked worlds – Mexico’s Sea of Cortés and the Baja California desert. This beautiful and award-winning film will be introduced by the film’s narrator\, Iliana Ortega\, marine biologist and on-screen naturalist. Following the film\, Iliana will be available for Q and A.\n \n \n\nTurtle\, the Incredible Journey\n\n\nTurtle: The Incredible Journey is a critically-praised\, award-winning film that follows the life and migration of a loggerhead turtle from hatching to maturity and a return to its original Florida nesting grounds. The loggerhead turtle\, a threatened species\, has one of the longest and most difficult migratory patterns of any marine animal.\n

SUMMARY:Jill Jackson "Fireside Chat"
DESCRIPTION:Loreto entrepreneur (and Eco-Alianza Board member) Jill Jackson will kick off a new “Startup Grind” presentation series at Eco-Alianza’s CenCoMA headquarters on Saturday\, September 30 at 5:00. Please join us! \nThe series will explore the entrepreneurial process and the key factors for sustainable business excellence. Through an informal “fireside chat” format (in air conditioned comfort)\, Jill Jackson will trace her pathway from an almost impulsive real estate purchase in 2004 to a thriving real estate and boutique hotel business today. Jill’s stories relate to nearly any entrepreneurial enterprise and to anyone familiar with Loreto. Her free presentation is mostly in English\, but Q&A in English or Spanish. \nFor more information about Startup Grind\, visit www.startupgrind.com . \n \nSave \nSave \nSave \nSave
